Fire and Occupational Safety
The Fire and Occupational Safety Section (FOS) of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) provides services to the university in the areas of fire and life safety, fire protection engineering and occupational safety. The staff also ensures compliance with the Statewide Fire Prevention Code, Statewide Building Code, Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Standards, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, as well as other applicable federal, state and local regulations and accreditation standards required for licensing.
The FOS staff maintains offices on both the West Campus and the East Campus to provide timely service and emergency response, as well as 24 hour on-call response assistance for fire emergencies.
Incident reduction and the minimization of loss,
in the areas of fire and occupational injuries
are the primary goals of this section.
