Central Mechanical / Electrical

Central Mechanical/Electrical is responsible for the operation of the Physical Plant Operations Center and maintenance and operation of all large building mechanical, electrical, and vertical transportation systems. These include large building chillers, air handlers, electrical switch gear and distribution systems, and elevators and escalators.

The Operations Center provides 24-hour operation and management of the University's building automation system and continuous monitoring of fire alarm systems.

Roofing

Physical Plant is responsible for maintenance and repair of all roofing and gutter systems for all University facilities.

Grounds

Physical Plant provides maintenance, and beautification of all University grounds and landscaping.

• Leaf/litter control

• Landscape design, installation, and maintenance
• Turf grass management
• Pavement repair and cleaning
• Snow removal and ice control
• Tree/horticultural maintenance

Housekeeping

Housekeeping Services are provided by Physical Plant:

• Routine building clean up
• Bathroom cleaning
• Dusting
• Mopping
• Vacuuming
• Periodic floor stripping and carpet cleaning
• Cleaning services for special events

Note: The above Housekeeping tasks are common to Physical Plant and contract housekeeping functions. The latter constitutes about 75% or our support to University customers in this area of responsibility and is managed by Contract Administration.
