FMD - Physical Plant
Mission:
The Physical Plant Department is
dedicated to providing timely, quality workmanship and service
delivered in a cost effective manner to support the University’s
mission.
Goal:
To be the facilities maintenance
and service provider of choice to our customers.
Facilities Services
The University is divided into four geographic zones. A Leader
is assigned to each zone, which are staffed with eight to ten
multi-crafted technicians. The intent and success of Zone
Maintenance is the consistent, responsive service provided by
the assigned staff due to ownership and accountability for
providing a complete job.
To complement the Zones in providing University customers with
cost effective reimbursable facilities work, Facility Services
provides a variety of services such as carpentry, moving,
keys/locks, signs, and vehicle repair.
Utilities
The Utilities Department is responsible for managing and
maintaining all University boilers/heating plants. As part of
this effort the Department monitors the expenses of the heating
plant (an auxiliary enterprise) supporting the MCV Hospitals and
many state office buildings, and establishes the steam rate
necessary to support all plant operations, maintenance, repair
and replacement. Utilities is also responsible for University
energy management, performs HVAC and fire alarm controls
troubleshooting/repair services, maintains major HVAC and
electrical equipment through the Central Mechanical-Electrical
group, and oversees the Customer Service/Operations Center
function for Physical Plant.
Contract Administration
The major focus of Contract Administration is on the two
housekeeping vendors supporting the Monroe Park and MCV Campuses.
They also manage contracts such as pest control, window washing,
housekeeping, and infectious waste removal.
